Hey Girl.

I'm Kay, a 30-year-old Black woman who has proudly called Richmond, Virginia home since 2018. You may have connected with me on Threads—the platform that sparked this creative venture. Welcome to Bloom RVA. There's already a seat at the table for you.

My Story

I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Old Dominion University, and once upon a  time, I had the joy of working as a Pre-K teacher. Teaching taught me patience, creativity, and how to nurture connections—a skill I’ve carried with me through every chapter of my life.

In 2018, my world shifted when my mom was diagnosed with leukemia. The following year, I received my own uterine cancer diagnosis, and later that same year, I faced the heartbreaking loss of my mom.

In 2020, I transitioned into the roles of marketer and public health communicator, with a passion for building digital spaces. Two of my passion projects include:

The Truth Traveller: A platform where I share travel guides, tips, and stories about my solo travels with my audience, inspiring them to explore the world with confidence, intention, and well—truth

Uterine Care Collaborative: A space dedicated to educating and empowering women about uterine health, sparking critical conversations about reproductive health and advocacy for Black women

While I wholeheartedly love the digital communities I’ve created, I’ve found that they don’t always translate into the in-person connections I've always wanted. I have realized that if there is a space I can't find, I can build it. Enter Bloom RVA.

Why Bloom RVA?

Since my mother’s passing, I’ve been searching for a sense of belonging and sisterhood. Bloom RVA is my way of creating that space—a welcoming community where Black women in Richmond can connect, support one another, and thrive together.

I believe that through shared experiences, we can create something beautiful. Bloom RVA is not just a social group—it’s a celebration of our journeys and learning to bloom where we’re planted.
